Victorian Boulder Opal & Rose Cut Diamond Pendant

This beautiful antique boulder opal pendant is an unusual find with a mysterious look. The pendant is crafted in British 15k yellow gold, set centrally with an oval opal with rose-cut diamonds on the compass points. The opal is from the Koroit opal field, a small mining area in southwest Queensland, Australia, known for its boulder opals that have a distinctive mix of opal with the host rock, known as matrix. In this case, the matrix has a deep chocolate brown base color, with veins of crystal opal running through it. The dark color contrasts with the opal, making the colors pop- red, green, gold, and more. It was challenging to capture on camera.
