At the center of this ring is a vivid red spinel, prized for its bold, fire-engine hue and often mistaken for ruby at first glance. Spinel is a rare natural gemstone that forms in the same mines as ruby and shares many of its visual qualities. Though often mistaken for ruby in centuries past, spinel wasn't officially recognized as a distinct gem until the early 1900s. Today, it's highly prized by collectors for its ability to achieve a pure, unfiltered red, free of pink or blue undertones, just like the one seen here.
This particular ring showcases one of the finest and largest red spinels we have available. Sourced from Burma, it weighs over 2 carats and has been cut magnificently, displaying a burning ember appearance that is difficult to capture in photographs. The spinel is set in a modern bypass-style mounting, featuring two white gold arms that rise to cradle the stone securely in a channel setting, while white diamonds along the shank add a touch of sparkle to the design.
This ring truly shines with brilliance, illustrating why jewelers and collectors have come to cherish natural spinels. Spinel is now recognized as an alternative birthstone for August, offering endless gifting possibilities.
Details: Custom 14k white gold ring set with a 2.52ct oval red spinel (Burma, untreated) and 0.35ctw of round diamond accents (SI GH).
