Rare Hyalite Opal Pendant "Daylight Fluorescent Opal"

This gemstone is a Mexican hyalite opal, a subspecies of fire opal that can be finely faceted. This particular piece is notably large and of high quality for its species. The opal is colorless and transparent but reacts to UV fluorescent light, producing a striking neon green glow (think highlighter green).

The first image shows the pendant under a black light, while the latter two images show it under standard LED lighting. These opals are sometimes called "daylight fluorescent opals" because they are highly reactive to UV light, causing even a small amount of UV spectrum in daylight to create a subtle green glow. Cool, right?
