Massive Scottish Agate Pebble Pendant/Brooch with Agate & Cairngorm

Few pieces make a stronger Victorian statement than classic Scottish pebble jewelry. Made in Scotland during the mid-19th century, these pieces celebrate Scottish heritage, featuring Celtic and British designs and showcasing local craftsmanship. They incorporate agates mined throughout Scotland and citrines sourced from Cairngorm National Park.

A large brooch like this would have been initially worn to fasten a heavy wool shawl or scarf, and it still retains its original pin hardware. The bail was added later, allowing it to be worn as a pendant, increasing its versatility. 

This design is known as a "sunburst," featuring a large oval citrine set centrally in hand-engraved silver prongs, surrounded by inlaid agates, including jasper, agate, bloodstone, and more. The piece is in remarkable condition, with only minor abrasions to the agates from years of wear. It measures 2.5 inches across, making it one of the largest Scottish pieces we have encountered.
