French Antique Target Ring Set with Antique Diamonds

From across the Atlantic comes this fabulous antique diamond target ring. This fantastic ring is set centrally with a fine 1/4ct Old European-cut diamond, which glistens and gleams against the surrounding rows of older rose cuts. This ring comes alive in low light, in which the large facets of the diamonds dance on the hand. Despite its impressive design, this ring has a low-profile stance on the hand, making it comfortable to wear. Note- from the top, this ring appears to be platinum; from the side, one sees the rosy yellow gold base metal. While target rings, a version of a round double halo design, became most popular in the Art Deco era, this early version was created slightly earlier, during the Art Nouveau period. We can tell the age from the combination of metal used- platinum-topped gold, which was employed before platinum and white gold- and the use of rose-cut diamonds, which were replaced by full cuts in the 1920s.
