French Antique Target Ring Set with Antique Diamonds

An extraordinary find from across the Atlantic, this antique diamond target ring is a true standout. At its center is a stunning 1/4-carat old European-cut diamond that sparkles beautifully against the surrounding rows of older rose-cut diamonds. The ring truly comes to life in low light, where the large facets of the diamonds dance on the finger. 

Despite its impressive design, this ring has a low profile, making it comfortable to wear. It appears to be made of platinum from the top, but from the side, one can see the rosy yellow gold base metal. Target rings, a type of round double halo design, gained immense popularity during the Art Deco era; however, this particular early version was crafted slightly earlier, in the Art Nouveau period. The age can be determined from the combination of metals used—platinum-topped gold, which was common before the widespread use of platinum and white gold—and the presence of rose-cut diamonds, which were replaced mainly by full-cut diamonds in the 1920s.
