Art Deco Peacock Hued Black Opal & Diamond Pendant

This stunning black opal pendant is imbued with every color of a peacock- neon blue, teal, purple, and a flash of green. This is a genuine Lightning Ridge black opal, where the base color of the opal is a dark coal black color, which creates a striking backdrop for the colorful display of deep indigo, violet, and flashes of teal. In direct natural light, one can see the ribbon flash pattern, where it appears that pieces of ribbon traverse the gem east-west, resulting in a lightning strike of color. We think this piece started as a pin or ring, made in platinum, then was converted to a pendant by adding this white gold bail in the 1950s. The opal is set in a delicate bezel, then accented by collet-set diamonds with quintessentially Art Deco milgrain accents. Stunning!
