Art Deco Peacock Hued Black Opal & Diamond Pendant

This stunning black opal pendant is infused with every color of a peacock - neon blue, teal, purple, and a flash of green. This is a genuine Lightning Ridge black opal, characterized by a base color of dark, coal-black, which creates a striking backdrop for the colorful display of deep indigo, violet, and flashes of teal. In direct natural light, one can see the ribbon flash pattern, where it appears that pieces of ribbon traverse the gem east-west, resulting in a lightning strike of color. We believe this piece originated as a pin or ring, made of platinum, and was later converted to a pendant by adding a white gold bail in the 1950s. The opal is set in a delicate bezel, then accented by collet-set diamonds with quintessentially Art Deco milgrain accents. Stunning!
