Onyx rings were incredibly popular during the 1920s and 1930s, a period that also introduced the iconic “little black dress.” Black is a versatile color that complements nearly everything, so jewelers of that time frequently used onyx as a stunning backdrop for distinctive jewelry designs.

This particular ring hails from the earlier Art Deco era and features an 18k white gold filigree setting with a rectangular onyx tablet. At the center, a single old European cut diamond is bezel-set and riveted into the onyx, creating a striking contrast of black and white—a beautiful representation of yin and yang. The onyx has a scooped center that captures and reflects light exquisitely.

The shoulders of the ring are adorned with intricate hand-carved filigree details, a hallmark of this period. This ring has a remarkable presence, measuring just over 3/4 inch from knuckle to knuckle, making it a fantastic choice for a right-hand or middle-finger ring.

Details: Size 7.5 antique Art Deco ring in 18k white gold, featuring onyx and a 0.10ct round old European diamond (I1 HI), circa 1925.
