This exquisite antique demantoid bar pin is surprisingly versatile. Originally worn as a "modesty brooch" to secure a blouse or shawl at the front, bar pins are now more commonly seen on lapels, hats, and scarves. This particular piece was crafted just after the turn of the 20th century in Great Britain, made from 14k gold, and features a platinum top.
The pin is set with a central round demantoid garnet, just shy of 1/2 carat, along with two additional demantoids in flower motifs on either end, accented with rose-cut diamonds. Demantoids are a rare variety of green garnet, exclusively mined in Russia. The central garnet showcases a unique horsetail inclusion, visible in the accompanying photo, which serves as a testament to its natural Russian origin. The garnet is a bright, grass-green color, with captivating flashes of blue and orange as it catches the light.
This top-quality piece demonstrates superb craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Details: Art Nouveau bar pin in 14k rosy yellow gold with a platinum top, featuring a .45ct round demantoid garnet, .06ct demantoid accents, and .15ctw of rose-cut diamond accents. Crafted in Britain circa 1905.
