Antique Russian Demantoid & Rose Cut Diamond Bar Pin Brooch
Antique Russian Demantoid & Rose Cut Diamond Bar Pin Brooch
SKU:33300094
This fabulous antique demantoid bar pin is surprisingly versatile. Originally worn as a “modesty brooch” to hold a blouse or shawl together at the front, bar pins are now more common on lapels, hats, and scarves. This one was crafted right after the turn of the 20th century in Great Britain, made from 14k gold and featuring a platinum top. It is set centrally with a just-shy 1/2ct round demantoid garnet, two more demantoids in flowers on either end of the pin, and some rose-cut diamond accents. Demantoids are a rare type of green garnet, mined exclusively in Russia. The one in the center of this pin features a fabulous horsetail inclusion, visible in the attached photo, as proof of its natural Russian origin. The color is a bright, grass-green with dispersive blue and orange flashes as it catches the light. This top-quality piece shows superb craftsmanship and finesse in every detail.
Details: Art Nouveau bar pin in 14k rosy yellow gold with platinum top set with .45ct round demantoid garnet, .06ct demantoid accents, and .15ctw rose cut diamond accents, Britain circa 1905.
