Antique Persian Turquoise & Diamond 3-Stone Ring

This stunning antique ring redefines traditional views of turquoise jewelry. While most people associate turquoise with vibrant blue stones set in affordable Southwestern silver, its history is much richer. Before 1900, the primary source of turquoise was in what is now Iran, where it has been mined for thousands of years as a treasured gemstone. Persian turquoise is known for its cleaner, more vibrant gems, often free from the veining and imperfections typical of American turquoise. The finest examples showcase a pure robin's egg blue color, although they can also be found in shades of green and other tones. 

This particular ring, dating from the Victorian era around 1890, is crafted from rosy yellow gold and features three delicate oval cabochons of turquoise. Originally, these stones were likely a brighter blue, but the copper content in the turquoise can cause oxidation over time, resulting in a greenish hue. Surrounding the trio of turquoise are exquisite antique diamonds, each hand-cut, that catch and reflect light beautifully.
