This antique wedding ring transports us back to a time before automobiles and air travel, to an era when reading by gaslight was the norm and jewelry was even more cherished than it is today. The ring would have been considered fashionable in Edwardian America, where blue sapphires were the preferred gemstone for engagement rings.
The design features five stones in a half-hoop arrangement, three dark blue sapphires alternating with old mine-cut diamonds, each hand-set in an elegant eight-prong crown-style setting. The stones are beautifully mounted in a combination of yellow gold and platinum, and at some point, the ring was re-shanked in white gold.
The gems in this ring are truly stunning; the diamonds sparkle brilliantly in the light, while the sapphires present a rich, velvety blue, not too dark, but the perfect hue. These sapphires are from Australia and are known for their subtle green undertone, similar to Montana sapphires. This contrasts with Ceylon or Burma sapphires, which often exhibit a violet undertone.
This ring would make an exceptional antique engagement ring or a right-hand ring for someone who wants to evoke the charm of the past, just like we do!
Details: Antique 14k two-tone gold 5-stone ring set with 1.10ctw of round natural blue sapphires (Australia, unheated) and 0.50ctw of old mine cut diamonds (SI2, HI) set in 6-prong crown-style heads, Edwardian, circa 1905.
